LGBTQ+ Therapy
With Kiel MᶜFarland, PsyD
I bring together lived experience with expertise as a transgender man and psychologist, combining hard-won lessons from my own journey with extensive, in-depth training in LGBTQ+ therapy.
Are you questioning who you are or what your identity means?
Are you feeling pressure, fear, or uncertainty because of the political and social climate?
Or, worse, because of your own family?
My clients are from across the spectrum of the LGBTQ+ identities and experience struggles with navigating coming out, relationships, or how their identity fits with a faith or in a family. Many start out anxious, unsure, depressed, or can’t help but keep repeating patterns.
Clients Come To Me When They
Question sexual orientation or gender identity
Are coming out
Struggle in relationships
Know they’re easily triggered
Doubt themselves
Repeat troubling patterns
Have challenges unique to same sex relationships
Feel stuck
If you’re nodding along, you are not alone.
How LGBTQ+ Therapy With Me Works
Therapy starts with building real trust. Together, we create room for everything that comes with being human: your fear, anger, grief, joy, and hope.
We won’t just focus on sexuality or gender, but also your past, your relationships, your environment, and the systems you have had to navigate. It all interacts!
A big part of our work is asking real questions like, “What will it mean for me if I live as who I really am?” We move at your pace and focus on what you need on that day.

About Kiel MᶜFarland, PsyD
My therapy is designed for people exploring identity, sexuality, and spirituality, especially when those parts feel complicated or in conflict.
I began my transition 10 years ago. For me, it wasn’t that I hated who I was before, but rather that I felt more like myself as a man. That experience shapes how I show up as a therapist, with respect for your unique process, and with no assumptions about where you should end up.
Clients have often said that my work with them helps them in ways no prior therapist has been able to, calling our work truly life changing. While we will explore difficult topics, sessions with me are strength focused and celebratory. This work is hard but we will laugh along the way.
Outside of therapy, I have been married for 24 years and have a college-age child. I’m also a lifelong artist who enjoys creative writing, crafting, and role-playing games like DnD. Before becoming a therapist, I was involved in community theater and volunteered with anti human trafficking organizations in Thailand.
I love pets and have too many animals. The furry ones are 2 dogs and a cat who has been known to make appearances in virtual sessions. I also have a black snake and an unknown number of fish.
Availability: I work with clients in person in Monrovia, Calif. and via Telehealth across California.
